Spotify's top music executive Jeremy Erlich has announced that he will be transitioning from his role to focus on personal entrepreneurial pursuits. According to reports, Erlich has been Spotify's global head of music since 2021 and had oversight for music partnerships, editorial, and business development.

In a memo to employees, Erlich revealed that pursuing his own business ventures has long been a goal and now seems the right moment to do so. He acknowledged that leaving the well-established streaming company was a difficult choice but expressed confidence in the capable music team he leaves behind.

Erlich will hold an advisory position through early 2025 to assist with the transition. His direct reports such as the global heads for editorial, partnerships and marketing will now answer to David Kaefer, Spotify's VP of music and audiobooks.

Before Spotify, Erlich worked at Interscope Records where he played a key role in the success of acts like Blackpink. He also held senior roles overseeing corporate development at Universal Music Group. With over a decade of experience in the music industry, Erlich has contributed significantly to Spotify's music operations and relationships.

While change can create uncertainty, Erlich reiterated his belief that the transition allows the talented Spotify music executives to take the division to greater heights.
