The past year has witnessed a remarkable surge in investment for the generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) industry. According to data from research firm Pitchbook, GenAI companies managed to secure a staggering $56 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 - a 192% increase from the previous year's total of $29.1 billion.
This influx of capital was spread across 885 individual deals, highlighting the frenetic pace of innovation and entrepreneurship taking place in this burgeoning sector. While the US market dominated the landscape, accounting for $49.8 billion of the total funding, the international community has also demonstrated a growing appetite for GenAI technologies.

The music industry, in particular, has been a hotbed of activity. Several AI-powered startups in the space managed to secure significant backing, including Soundraw ($3 million), Created By Humans ($5 million), ProRata ($25 million), and PlayAI ($21 million). However, the standout deal of the year belonged to Suno, an AI music-making firm that raised a staggering $125 million in May 2024 - just a month before it became embroiled in legal challenges alongside fellow startup Udio.
